Welsh Weekend and Day Courses:

Weekends at Alltfechan Barn offer a wonderful antidote to the madness of everyday life. There is time unwind, walk across fields and hills, discuss and practice on a deeper level, while enjoying beautiful scenery and simple local food. The Barn is set high on a hillside rooted in the ancient and modern landscape; the valley is dotted with busy working farms, age old drove routes wind along the ridges, while high points are marked with standing stones and hill forts.

Classical Qi Gong combines physical exercises and stretches with meditation. It is usually practiced in standing or sitting and has a very long history in China, images of people practicing the postures and qi gong1movements have been found in a tomb dating from 167 BCE. There are many styles of practice ranging from strong physical movements and martial arts to silent meditation; at the root of all is the aim of balancing the mind and body, both internally and within the wider environment. The style practice at the Apothecary sessions is simple, quiet and rooted in finding a natural balance. It draws in daoist philosophy: ‘By sitting still you can know the whole world’ . We start with exercises in standing, allowing the body and mind to stretch, release and find their natural balance; slowly we move into a quiet sitting (nei gong) encouraging stillness and a deep connection with the world around us. The benefits are many: release of tension, sense of calm and well being, a better understanding of yourself and your world, a sense of balance, a few moments to escape from a busy life

The wild hill country of mid-Wales is the perfect setting to engage with qi, relax and rebalance, and discover our connection with nature and the natural landscape.

Tutor Rosey Grandage is an acupuncturist, tuina practitioner and physiotherapist who studied qi gong as an apprentice in China from 1991-2 and has been teaching Qi Gong, Acupuncture and Tuina since 1999.

Tuina Courses

Open to practitioners already qualified in Chinese medicine: acupuncture and/or herbs, these 4 – 5 day courses offer an intensive practical training in this versatile ancient massage which is such a useful addition to practice. In China it is normally taught with acupuncture, somehow in the west the two have become separated to the detriment of both.

Rosey Grandage, Kang Xian Li and Sandra Hill have run qi gong tuina courses together for more than 15 years and have real dedication, knowledge and enthusiasm for passing on these skills and ideas.

Musclo-Skeletal Conditions: working systematically through the body we explore the relationship between physical and qi, formed and moving, yin and yang. Examining the physical body through observation of posture and range of movement and palpation we revise anatomy and gain a deeper understanding of structure. We use cases which are of interest to the participants and discuss practical advice for patients, including qi gong, stretches and exercises.

Dates: 18th – 22nd December 2017
Venue: Apothecary Natural Health Centre, 33 Greyhound Road, London, W6 8NH
Cost: £350, concessions £250.

Internal Conditions: each day we explore a different zang fu from the perspective of its related element and then take this theoretical knowledge into practical techniques for diagnosis and treatment. The emphasis is on quiet, deep, focused work to understand the movement of qi in balance and imbalance. We use cases which are of interest to the participants and discuss practical advice for patients, including diet and qi gong.

Dates: 1st – 5th February 2018
